Congratulations to Carolyn Abbott who has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for Gedling. It is a Labour held seat but the majority last time was only 1,859 – so it is one of the seats the Conservatives need to win in order to secure a proper overall majority.
Carolyn is the Director of a wrought iron work business in Sheffield which she runs with her husband. She was the Conservative candidate in Sheffield Heeley in 2001 and Barnsley East and Mexborough in 2005. Last time round, in 2010, she stood in Chesterfield. Then earlier this year she stood for Yorkshire and Humber in this year’s Euro Elections.
She was on the original A-List – but it seems to me that shouldn’t be held against her. So far as I can gather she has proven solid experience both of politics and of the real world. Now she has finally got the chance to fight a winnable seat.
Good luck to her.
