Denbighshire County – Rhyl South West:
Lab 474, C 131, Plaid Cymru 62, Ind 52, Lib Dem 62. (May 2012 – Two seats Lab 797, 647, Ind 184,141, C 116, 96, Lib Dem 71).
Lab hold. Swing 6.0 per cent Lab to C.
This contest took place in the Vale of Clwyd constituency – which Labour won last time with a majority of 2,509 over the Conservatives. The Press Association point out there was low turnout, at 20 per cent, and that independent candidates make comparisons difficult. I would add that the six per cent swing is from 2012 when Labour were eight point ahead nationally.
But the result is still an encouraging sign of the Conservative advance in Wales.
