More recruits to the Conservatives. After the announcement last week that a husband and wife team of Labour councillors in Northampton had defected to the Conservatives from Labour there is further heartening news, this time from Poole. Two councillors there – a father and daughter had switched from the Lib Dems to the Conservatives. They are Cllr Lindsay Wilson, who represents the Alderney Ward, and father Cllr Graham Wilson, who has been a councillor for 19 years and represents Newtown Ward.
In a joint statement they said:
“The policies of the Conservatives, both locally and nationally, are more aligned to our current political views.
“We assure all our residents and local communities that we will continue to serve them to the best of our abilities.”
These defections nearly give the Conservatives an overall majority. Poole has 42 councillors of which 21 are now Conservative, 16 Liberal Democrat, four Poole People and one UKIP.
