An excellent proposal for a new free school in Barnes to open in 2013. The case for new primary school in the area is very strong with the growing shortage of places. But this particular school also shows every promise of being outstandingly good.

It would be called Thomson House School and the man behind it Matteo Rossetti is currently head of prep at Harrodian School.

He says:

“We see fulfilment as more than success. We see it arising from the achievement of excellent skills, personal well-being and a dedication to the positive development of one’s community.”

I wonder what the Lib Dems will make of it. The Deputy Prime Minister, in one of his attacks on Government policy said that free schools should only be set up in poor neighbourhoods. I don't think Barnes would qualify. So will the Lib Dems follow their leader and oppose it? Or will they follow the views of local parents who are busy signing up to support this much needed initiative?
