A setback for the Local Government Chronicle's campaign against councils accepting Government funding for a Council Tax freeze. A Conservative Group meeting this morning on Cumbria Council has backed a freeze – despite speculation to the contrary.

Council leader Cllr Eddie Martin emails me to say:

To conclude the saga, the Conservative Group of Cumbria County Council today voted overwhelmingly to accept the government's council tax grant for 2012/13…we shall put a 0% increased budget before Council in February.
